Our Blessed Lady of the Chain
Our Blessed Lady of the Chain, Statue, Created in Italy
In 1392, Our Blessed Mother came to the aid of three young men condemned to die. After a great storm suddenly came, their execution was delayed, and the guards and prisoners had to find shelter. They found it at St. Mary of Port Church. So the prisoners would not escape, the guards fastened chains around the prisoners and church doors. Once the guards fell asleep, The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the three men, who prayed fervently for deliverance. While they were praying, the chains mysteriously fell to the ground. The church doors opened by themselves, and the men quietly walked out. The guards awoke and recaptured the men. The king soon heard what happened and let the men go. He said, “The Blessed Mother has set them free, so will I”.
